Comparison Between Eddy‐Covariance and Flux‐Gradient Size‐Resolved Dust Fluxes During Wind Erosion Events

چکیده

Estimating accurately dust emission flux during aeolian erosion events is crucial for quantifying the amount of in atmosphere. The rare existing field experiments such were mainly performed using flux-gradient (FG) method. Here, we present first intercomparison size-resolved fluxes estimated by both FG and eddy-covariance (EC) methods several events. Both applied simultaneously WIND-O-V (WIND erOsion presence sparse Vegetation)'s 2017 experiment over an isolated erodible bare plot South Tunisia. Overall, predict similar particle smaller than about 4 μm. For coarser particles, EC method predicts a Factors explaining this difference are discussed as different sampling heads used counters methods, or possible weakening constant layer at location upper counter This highlights difficulties advantages each well their complementarity.

The Prediction of Horizontal Soil Fluxes During Wind Erosion Events

The horizontal flux of soil above eroding surfaces is often claimed to be proportional to a power of the friction velocity (or some other measure of the strength of the eroding wind field), with by far the most popular value of the power being 3. However, there is considerable variation between both the “goodness of fit” of a power law and the value of the power obtained from different data set...

Investigating Wind Speed Reduction Rate and Aeolian Erosion via Multi-Row Windbreak in Three Dust Storm Events

Introduction: Wind erosion results from desertification in arid and semi-arid regions and is intensified by any decrease in rainfall and vegetation. Sistan region, located in southeastern Iran, has been exposed to severe wind erosion and dust storms for about 23 years as a result of frequent and prolonged drought in the region and desiccation of Hamoun lakes. Therefore, finding appropriate meth...

A Technique to Measure Fine-dust Emission Potentials During Wind Erosion

Potential aerosol release rates during wind erosion of soils have been quantified by such methods as sandSuspendable-size soil particles are released during wind erosion and blasting aggregates in laboratory settings (Alfaro et al., transported downwind, impacting regional air quality. Of particular concern are those particles with a mean aerodynamic diameter of 1998), measuring concentrations ...

From dust to dust: Quaternary wind erosion of the Mu Us Desert and Loess Plateau, China

The Ordos Basin of China encompasses the Mu Us Desert in the northwest and the Chinese Loess Plateau to the south and east. The boundary between the mostly internally drained Mu Us Desert and fluvially incised Loess Plateau is an erosional escarpment, up to 400 m in relief, composed of Quaternary loess. Linear ridges, with lengths of ~102–103 m, are formed in Cretaceous–Quaternary strata throug...

Wind tunnel experiments on the effects of tillage ridge features on wind erosion horizontal fluxes

In order to parameterize horizontal soil fluxes produced by wind over tillage ridges, eight-ridge configurations composed of sandy soil and exhibiting ridge heights to ridge spacing (RH/RS) ratios ranging from 0.18 to 0.38 were experimented in a wind tunnel. These experiments are used to develop a parameterization of the horizontal fluxes over tillage ridged surfaces based only on the geometric...
